A brief history of Karmafan

Karmafan began in a park in Dublin. Dave was sitting on a bench thinking about how it should be easy for fans to give something back to artists. We developed Karmafan over the course of the following year and launched in September 2007.

Dave Barton - Founder

After he finished college (Philosophy and English), Dave moved to Prague. Four years - and a lot of interesting experiences - later, he returned to Ireland and completed an MSc in Computer Science. While working as a graphic designer in the newspaper industry he continued to develop other interests, which led to exploring ideas for helping artists to benefit from the most efficient distribution system yet devised. He left publishing to work full-time on Karmafan at the beginning of 2007.

Kulpreet Singh - Founder

Kulpreet recently obtained a PhD from Trinity College - studying how groups of mobile devices can communicate best. Towards the end of the thesis he re-discovered web programming and completely bought into the idea of a need for a patronage system on the web. A system where fans can voluntarily "give something back" to artists they appreciate.
